A little, tiny, mini worm farm

Well, the last week has been fun. Not! We all managed to catch the nastiest sore throat bug I've had for a long, long time if not ever. Ugh!

Anyway, I thought I'd show off my youngest's mini, mini worm farm. She just looooves bugs and worms. She spent all of last summer digging up my garden beds looking for worms. So when it was time to shut everything down for the year, I made her a tiny worm farm to watch over the winter.

I took a 3lb sour cream tub and drilled a few holes in the bottom. Then we went out and filled it halfway with dirt and worms from one of the garden beds. Then I stuck the sour cream tub inside a slightly larger one to catch any drainage and covered the top of the dirt with a handful of straw. I just set the lid on top of things, I don't know if sealing it would keep it from getting fresh air or if that even matters, but this works. Little one has a blast 'checking' her worms almost daily and feeding them as needed. We also make sure to keep the dirt moist. I figure everybody can back  out in the garden this spring.

  1. What a cool idea! My daughter was a bug collector, too, when she was young. My husband said she would probably grow up to be an entymologist (sp.) She didn't....but .ended up being a family therapist
    instead. LOL

    1. Yeah, this kid loves bugs! We have to watch her close because she likes to pick up spiders and we have some nasty ones here.
