And now Apples!

Busy time of year, isn't it? I managed to score some free apples. I was told they are 'Dutch' Apples. I don't know, but they sure taste good! Very tart, which I love! I also got some crab apples, variety Whitney. Wow! Are those good! They have got to be the best crab apples I have ever tasted. Sweet, for a crab, and such a 'complex' flavor. They are our favorite for fresh eating.

So, needless to say, I am busy making applesauce, apple butter, dried apples, apple leather, etc. The house smells sooooo good right now.

I started out with 6 bags of apples.

Here's my nifty apple peeler/corer in action. I really like these things! This one is a suction clamp variety. It does not work on my table, but a C clamp comes in useful. I set it on the end of the table and the peelings drop right into the bowl. I put the none buggy cores in there as well.

Here's a pot of apples and a big bowl of peelings and cores. One grocery bags' worth.

The apples cooking down for applesauce and the peelings in my steamer juicer. Another nifty canning gadget. I didn't get a pic of my full setup, but I set a step stool in front of the stove with a gallon jar on a pot or box for the juice to drain into.  Sorry about all the backlight. :(

And now some applesauce and apple butter.
