Previously I fed my goats in their barn. I had a nice manger I'd built and it worked pretty well for a few animals. The problem is that I now have too many goats! So, I decided to try out the feeders from plans by Premier1. I'd seen these on other blogs and everyone seemed to love them. You can now add me to that crowd. These are easy to build, easy to adapt to what building materials I had on hand and work very well!
As you can see, I did 'adapt' things a bit. I was out of fencing staples so ended up using baling twine to attach the top of the fencing part. I used OSB for the back so had to cover it with a bit of siding of the trailer we are dismantling. I also had to add some boards to keep chickens from going under it out into the yard.
I ended up making another one so there is plenty of room for all the does and babies. I'm now making one for the bucks. I have to revamp my buck/cow feeding system since the new 'goat dog' really, truly believes that cows will eat goats and so won't let them within 50 feet of the goats. Oh, well.
