My daughter found one of my turkeys out in the pasture with a new little one this morning. It has been a dismal year for baby birds for us this year. Last year was unbelievable! I ended up with between 35 and 40 turkey poults alone. That doesn't count the eggs that I sold and other people hatched out. This year, next to nothing. I sold one batch to a lady who was thrilled with last years' experience and she only had 11 out of 36 hatch in her incubator. I've let my hens sit on all their eggs all year and had 5 babies so far. Two that have lived. I really think I need a new tom. :(
I had several chickens go broody as well and only ended up with one chick. I've got plenty of roosters and had even more this spring so I'm not sure what the problem with them is. Just one of those years, I guess. It happens.
