A New Rag Rug

I recently discovered twined rugs. They look cool so I thought I'd give one a shot and see if I liked making them. It's kinda cool! For my 'try it and see if I like it' loom, I didn't want to spend much (or any) money so I scrounged. I went out to the scrap lumber pile and found a 4 1/2' by almost 3' frame and figured that would work for the moment. I put some screws in it to hold the weft and scrounged up some old metal step-in posts for an electric fence. I knocked the triangle pieces off and used those for the metal rods down the side of the loom to keep the edges of the rug even. It actually worked pretty well! The rug is fairly big, though. :)

And, of course, I used denim since I have lots and lots and lots and lots, etc. of the stuff!

My little 'helper'

Here it is finished but still on the loom. You can't see it very well in the pics, but I left the frayed edges exposed. I really like the look of frayed denim after a couple of washes and want to see how it works out in this rug. However, I'm not sure I can fit in a washer so this may have been a not-so-good idea. Maybe one of those commercial ones at the laundromat?

Finished and off the loom.

With 5'2" oldest child on it for size reference.

I enjoyed it and, now that I know what's involved in the process, have some ideas for a much nicer loom!

Just wanted to add, I did get in the washer. I folded it in quarters, stuck it in there and hoped for the best. It actually washed better than the smaller toothbrush denim rugs I have. It also weighed less. Strange. They are an oval roughly 2 1/2' - 3' long but the denim strips I used were 3" wide. The strips on this rug were 1" - 1 1/2". Oh, and my washer is a front loader, don't know if this would work in a traditional or not.
