That Midwinter thaw

It's been just beautiful here the last couple of days. Temps at around 60, just gorgeous. Even the wind has been cooperating and it hasn't really been much over 20 mph, which is quite good for this time of year., so I've even been able to hand clothes outside again. It even smells like spring out there! Naturally, everything is muddy up to the eyeballs, but I can live with that.

It's beautiful and I love it, but it does make me want to get out and start tinkering in the garden and I can't yet. It's just the typical late Jan/early Feb thaw and we still have roughly another 2-3 months of winter to go.

Oh, it smells so good out there this morning!

  1. Yes....Crazy weather, too, here in Central Texas. 90 degrees at noon! It felt nice and warm but I could not believe my eyes when I checked the outdoor thermometer. This is high ly unusual...even for Texas,,,,considering just a few weeks ago it was below freezing. I hurried up and pruned my fruit trees (supposed to be done in mid February while they are still dormant) but I feared they would burst into bloom with all this warm weather. That might spell the end of my fruit harvest as we tend to have hard freezes as late as early March. The lovely weather also makes me want to get out and work in the garden again.

    1. And meanwhile the NE is getting slammed. It is crazy weather right now, isn't it? I've been out checking my little fruit trees daily, hoping they'll come through it ok. If it doesn't last too long, they should be fine. The oldest is only 4 years so I still worry about them and baby them a bit.
