One last update/summary of the solar stock tank

I have to say that I am most impressed with that thing! We had some pretty cold weather and cloudy days but I never had to use the electric stock tank heater. During the coldest spells I did have to go out and break ice a few times a day but it was never more than a couple inches thick and it only froze up in that drinking hole. Also, using that irrigation tarp made a nice slippery surface that the ice didn't really stick to. That made ice removal pretty easy.

I think if I was gone during the day I'd want an electric heater in there during the worst cold spells, but that still wouldn't work to much more than a couple weeks over the winter. Saved me roughly $75 per month on the winter electric bill. It more than paid for itself!

And here's a midwinter update on it. http://senselesslyrandom.blogspot.com/2014/11/progress-report-on-solar-stock-tank.html
