With goats, chickens and pigs, I needed a fair bit of grain this year. I hate having to go to the 'big city', an hour away, every time I need some more feed. Especially when they decide to ration it. So, we checked around and found some wheat and some peas for decent prices. We got our wheat a month ago and my barn is full of 55 gal barrels, a couple of freezers and a pickup tool box full of wheat. No room left for peas whatsoever!
I've been racking my brain trying to figure out where and how to store the peas. Whilst racking, I was out pulling corn stalks by the Redneck Rain Cachement tank and had a lightbulb moment. I'd use the tank for pea storage. So, I drained the water, took off the satellite and dragged the tank up by the barn, after cleaning the algae out of it.
That sucker holds 3900 lbs of peas, a whole pickup load! I just unscrew the faucet assembly and let the peas run out into a bucket and then screw it back in when done. If this works as well as it seems to with a couple days' use, we're going to get a few more that we can use just for this purpose. Then we'll do something a little better than the faucet assembly for getting the grain out. I didn't want to ruin this thing for water usage though. I'll need it again in the summer.
The tarp is covering the big opening in the top since it sits right under the eve of the barn and it leaks a bit. Don't want my grain to get wet. :)
