I have this one turkey, who I believe I mentioned earlier, that doesn't make the best mother. I don't know if she eats her babies or just loses them, but they are gone within a day of hatching. She is bound and determined to sit, though and is a ferocious setter. She's drawn blood on me more than once. So, I decided to take advantage of that. After her last (failed) batch, I stuffed another batch of eggs under her. I took them from her a few days before they were due to hatch and stuck them in the incubator. And today, a hatchling! Yay!
Above is the turkey hen. Another one, the black, has also decided to set. Turkeys frequently share nests. I stuffed another batch under the girls after taking these ones. I think I'll try letting them hatch them and seeing if the black one is enough of a mother to protect them from the narragansett hen. We'll see.
Here's the eggs in the incubator.
