Isn't it amazing, the things you can find when you just look down? Last weekend we were out cutting wood on the 'back 40' and we found some fossils when we sat down for a water break. We have lots of sandstone (ok, that's pretty much all we've got) out here and the area is known for oyster and mussel shell fossils but we found some plant imprints. We found leaves of various sorts, some grass leaves and stems and even a couple shells, but they were pretty fragmented and I don't know what they originally were. We've been over this spot a hundred times or more, but just never bothered to really look at the rocks around us.
Here is part of a rather large leaf
A couple of smaller leaves
And what looks to be a grass seed
Nothing super exciting, but pretty cool nonetheless. The kids had a lot of fun and brought several of their own back to the house.
