So Fall is in the air, and maybe Winter, too. Yesterday was sunny and hit 70 degrees F. Today it's snowing and supposed to only get to the upper 20's. We are supposed to get a few inches out of this storm and the moisture would be appreciated.
We spent the weekend getting hay. Now we have all the alfalfa we'll need but we still need to get some more grass hay for the cows. They do have plenty to get them through the next couple weeks til we can go get it, though. It's a bit of work, but it's very satisfying to see a full hayshed! Just as good as a full woodshed.
Last night the kids carved their pumpkins. They really like getting templates off the internet and carving ornate designs. Actually they usually like us to do the ornate part. :) We couldn't find the carving kit this year, though, so had to make do. The pictures had to be simpler than normal, but it was still fun. Oldest child did hers all by herself and did pretty good considering she only had a kitchen knife and sawsall blade to work with. Neither of those lend themselves to intricate details, small spaces or sharp curves. Here's a couple of them.
Since today is cold and snowy, it's a good day to stay in by the fire and make pumpkin butter. Yum!!
