I have an area well away from the house where I think I am going to put an asparagus bed. I'll need to water it and it is too far away from the hydrant to use hoses, so I came up with this idea.
This is an old, solid fiberglass satellite dish perched on top of a poly water tank. I scrounged the dish free of Craigslist and found the tank, used and fairly cheap, the same way. Both the tank and the dish are anchored to stakes in the ground. So far we've only had light winds up to about 20 mph, so I don't know if it will stick around in some the windier conditions we get. We'll find out one of these days.
The theory is that it will collect water and then I can gravity feed to the asparagus bed and the grapes just below it. There is a bit of slope there and when/if full, should be enough pressure/drop to water.
I hope.
So far we have had an inch of rain, roughly, since we put it together. There's a little less than 50 gallons in there I think. I wish I'd gotten it set up a couple months ago when we were busy flooding and getting LOTS of rain. Oh, well. There's no asparagus yet, so this is more of a test run to see if it really will work anything like I hope.
