Soaked or Sprouted Grains for the Birds

It's been going around the internet for quite a while now that soaked or sprouted or fermented grains are better in every way for the people and animals that eat them. Now I can't speak for people, the only things I do that way are beans,
we don't eat that much in the way of grains, even flours. Not sure why, we do love them, it just seems to work out that way.

Anyway, I soak and sprout grains for the pigs when I have some, and they love them! I don't know if it's any better for them, but it doesn't seem to be any worse. My goats won't eat them, no matter what or how long I try, but then I have picky goats. :)

However, I have seen it greatly promoted for chickens. So, I tried it for them, as well. I started with soaked, then moved to sprouted and even tried fermented some, since that happens by accident during the summer. I kept reading and reading about how good it was for them, even have a friend who does it and swears by it. I tried following her methods to a T. But within a few weeks of starting to feed them that, my egg production disappeared. I fed them this stuff for a year, waiting for my healthier birds and outrageous egg production. Never happened. I finally gave up and went back to dry grains. In two weeks I was getting eggs again.

My birds are free range and get lots of scraps from the kitchen including meat scraps so they don't eat just the grains. I feed field peas and wheat usually because that's what I can get. They do wonderfully on it dry, but not so hot when it's treated. The chicks I raised on it didn't get near as big as the other birds, the egg production went in the tank and molting took forever!

So, while it must work for most people, it definitely didn't for me. Has anybody else had any issues or great successes with this method?
