Woohoo, pickles!

I know, really? I'm excited about pickles? Well, I haven't been able to successfully grow pickling cucumbers since I moved to Montana. I don't know why, I had no problem in Wyoming and that is not all that far away, but that's been the story of my garden for all the years since we moved here. Maybe I'm special? :)

cucumbers, garlic and dill, fresh from the garden!

Anyway, I was out watering yesterday and I found three cucumbers that were ready to pick! Yes, I am excited about 3 whole cucumbers. I picked them and trotted inside to make a tiny batch of dill refrigerator pickles. I celebrate the small successes. There are plenty more flowers so hopefully soon I will have more cucumbers, maybe even enough to make it worth fermenting a batch of pickles. I love fermented pickles!

So picture me doing a happy dance around my wee jar of pickles!

    1. The little things are often the best, especially on a hamburger for dinner tonight! :)

  2. Very nice! I'm glad to see you have garlic in your picture. My husband told me we won't put garlic in our pickles?!! We grow garlic so it seems kind of weird to me.

    1. My husband isn't quite sure why I defile garlic with pickles, lol! He loves his garlic, pickles not so much.

I just picked the rest of my garlic today and some of the bulbs are huge! Easily the size of my palm. They were grown in almost pure compost and apparently REALLY like that! Hopefully it doesn't wash out the flavor too much, my hubby likes hot garlic. I know with some herbs, easy living makes for less potency, thoughts?
